Henry Newton Obituary

NEWTON, HENRY A. JR., 87, of Warwick, RI passed away on Sunday, December 7th. He was the husband to his beloved wife, the late Eva (Dyer) Newton whom he became one with on February 3, 1945.

Born in Cranston, R.I., he was the son of the late Wallie (Nanig) Newton. During WWII he served his country in the U.S. Army stationed on the Aleutian Islands. He was a police officer serving on the Warwick Police Department while working a second job in heating and air conditioning. After leaving the Police Department he pursued his career as Sales and Service Manager of Eastern Coal & Oil Co. in Providence. When he was 55 he and his wife began their own business, Newton Oil Co. until he retired at age 70.

Mr. Newton belonged to the RI Police Chiefs Association; he was a founding member of the Warwick Elks Lodge 2196. He also helped build the F.O.P Lodge #7 and was a member there for a number of years. His love of family, friends and traveling resulted in a very active, accomplished and rewarding life.

He is survived by his children Robert Newton, Henry Newton III, Judy Jarbeau and Patricia Noel, his 6 grandchildren Raymond, Trevor, Joseph, Henry IV, Jennifer, Sarah, and his 6 great-grandchildren Justin, Amanda, Ashley, Jessica, Emily and Lily. He was also the grandfather to the late Robert 'Butchy' Newton.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95). Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the American Stroke Foundation www.americanstroke.org or Boy Scouts of America www.scouting.org would be appreciated. www.murphyfuneral homes.org
