James Logan Obituary

LOGAN, JAMES T. "RED"
85, of Johnston, Narragansett, RI, and Juno Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 15th.
Born in Lackawanna, New York he was the son of the late James T. Logan and Ruth (Papi) Logan. He was married for 53 years to the love of his life, Margaret Mary Newton.
Jim served honorably in the Korean War and worked for New England Telephone Company for 35 years until he retired to Juno Beach, Florida. Jim was a proud member of the IBEW and the former IBTW. He was a member of the Sons of the Irish Kings, Dillon Council KFC, and served for 15 years on the Providence Housing Board for which he chaired for some of his tenure. Jim was politically active and worked on Mayor Joseph Doorley Jr's campaign and was proud to have also successfully campaigned for Governor J. Joseph Garrahy.
He was an avid horse racing and sports fan. He attended several Kentucky Derbys and enjoyed summer horse racing at Saratoga Racetrack in NY with his family and friends. He was a diehard Yankee fan who enjoyed sharing this passion with his son and grandsons. His love of music began as a young boy when he enrolled in voice and tap dancing lessons.
Jim was known for his sense of humor, quick wit, sharp mind, and always the "teaser". He was a loyal friend who enjoyed every facet of life. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and was always active in their lives. He loved to attend and support all their endeavors, including sporting and school events.
Jim's life was rich in love and family. Despite many health challenges, he always put his best foot forward and tried to keep a positive outlook. He was an avid reader, enjoyed a good round of golf with friends, and traveled frequently by both land and sea. Some of his fondest memories were made on these vacations with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his loving children, Ruthanne Logan and Thomas Farrelly of Narragansett, Karen Dowd and her husband Chris of Biddeford, ME, Peggy Leveille and her husband Jeffrey of Greenville, Maureen Gillmore and her husband David of Johnston, and his "main man" James T. Logan Jr. and his wife Vicki of Attleboro, MA. Jim cherished his family, and was especially proud of his nine grandchildren, Rainer, Marc, Amanda, Abigail, David, Connor, James "JT", Luke, and Jake. Each grandchild having their own special place in his heart just for them.
Jim's funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours, Monday, January 22, from 4 to 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, Suite #3004, Warwick, RI 02886.

Logan Family, May Jim "Lugs" rest in peace. I worked with Jim at NET&T, at the Promenade Garage in the late 1960's. He could always bring a smile to your face and was a big help to a young kid just starting with the company. May you have fond memories of good times and hold Jim in your heart forever.

Sincerely,
