James Edward Norton

NORTON, JAMES EDWARD, of South Attleboro, MA entered the gates of heaven on 11/18/07. He was a son of John M. and Lenora (McEwen) Norton, beloved husband of Lois Fox Norton, and the husband of the late Anne Kelly Norton.

He is survived by one sister Ethel Eldredge of East Providence R.I. and was brother to the late Adeline Watjen, John M. Norton, and Margaret Follett.

He leaves four children from his first marriage, Nancy Gendron of Florida, Sheila Andrews of Florida, Mary Ann Travers of Narragansett R.I. and Christopher Kelly of Pawtucket R.I. He leaves five children from his second marriage, Barbara Ward of Attleboro MA, Cheryl Bartholomew of Providence R.I., Jay Norton of Pawtucket R.I., Julie Washburn of Dudley, MA and David Norton of Kobe, Japan. He is survived by 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

He worked as a supervisor at the Water Supply Board in Pawtucket, R.I. for many years. He also worked at Cryogenics and Pantex. He served in the Army as a TEC Sergeant during World War II and was a member of BTRY B, 489TH Armory Field Artillery BN., 29th Division, from Oct. 14, 1942 - Oct. 15 1945, and landed in Normandy on D-Day. He was awarded the Army Good Conduct Metal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign, World War II, Army of Occupation and the Driver-W Badge.

A private burial service will be held at Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery Exeter, R.I. on December 7, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at Wesley Methodist Church on December 8, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Wesley Methodist Church, 55 Woodland Street, Lincoln R.I. in his memory.
