John Tomei Obituary

TOMEI, DR. JOHN A. 'JACK', 75, of Countryside Drive, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Paula (Ricci) Tomei. Dr. and Mrs. Tomei had been happily married for over 40 years.

Born in Pawtucket, the son of the late John and Helen (McFarland) Tomei. Dr. Tomei was a radiologist for 25 years at Rhode Island Hospital before retiring in 1992. He graduated from St. Raphael Academy 1949, Providence College 1953 and the University of Bologna Medical School, Bologna, Italy 1961. He was a member of the Providence Medical Society, the Rhode Island Medical Society, and a founding member of Rhode Island Medical Imaging. He was a member of the Rhode Island Societies of Magicians, Society of American Magicians, and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 10620. He was a season ticket holder of the Providence College Friars, since the Providence Civic Center opened, and was a recipient of the Faithful Friar award in 2000.

Besides his wife, he is survived by, two loving daughters, Patricia Lambrou, and her husband Theodore, and Amy Goggin, and her husband Jeffrey; a loving son, John Tomei, all of Cumberland; one sister, Margaret Bannon, of Cumberland; one brother, Ralph Tomei, and his wife Sandra, of Seekonk, MA; eight grandchildren, Lena, Rachel, Jason, David, and Emily Lambrou, Timory, Thomas, and Delaney Goggin; his mother-in-law, Lena Ricci, of Cumberland; two sister-in-laws, Roberta Campagna, and her husband Theodore, of California, and Pamela Wamester, of Cranston; several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the O'NEILL Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will be in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Raphael Academy, 123 Walcott Street, Pawtucket, 02860, in memory of Dr. Tomei, would be appreciated.

Patty, please know I am there for you and if there is anything I can do please let me know. I feel so lucky to have known your dad through you. I am away on vacation and was so sad when I heard the news this morning of the loss of a great friend!! I will always have such great memories of the good old days I spent working with Dr. Tomei at 110 Lockwood Street. He was a wonderful doctor, husband and father.
