Norbert Schecher Obituary

SCHECHER, NORBERT J., 79, died Friday in the Miriam Hospital. Born in Downes KS, a son of the late Norbert and Mary (Kelly) Schecher, the family moved to Wea Community in Bucyrus, KS and then to the Fox Point Section of Providence in 1941 where he has lived ever since.

Mr. Schecher was a vice president for Old Stone Bank in the Tax Department for where he worked for 35 years retiring in 1990 to take care of his elderly parents. He was a member of the Fatima Council Knights of Columbus, the Fox Point Boys Club, the German American Cultural Society in Pawtucket and the PC Alumni Association and a 50 year member of the American Legion, Fox Point Post. He was a graduate of Cleary School, St. Columbans Seminary in Silver Creek, NY and Providence College Class of 1952. He served in the Army in the Korean War at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He was an avid PC Basketball Fan and played baseball as a youth.

He leaves a brother William E. Schecher and his wife Mary Patricia of Smithfield, 3 nephews Norbert Schecher and his wife Ana who was there to comfort him when he passed, James Schecher and his wife Gina both of Smithfield and Michael Schecher of Florida, a niece Jolean Flores of Florida, as well as great nieces and nephews, David, Briana, Vanessa, Cristina, Timothy, Desiree and Mya Angeline. He was the brother of the late James M. Schecher.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Monahan Drabble Sherman Funeral Home 230 Waterman St., Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church, Hope St., at 11 a.m. Calling hours Friday 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St Joseph Church. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Condolences may be left at monahandrabblesherman.com

I too worked with Norby at Old Stone and saw him since retirement at Old Stone's reunions. He was a great friend and I send my deepest sympathies to his family.

Norbert you will be missed dearly the boys loved you as they grew up around you and never will they forget you our friend and neighbor also joe and i will never forget you as a kind hearted person that you were our hearts go out to all your family. We will never forget norbert and we are sadden by his passing and if we can ever do for the family please fell free to ask thats the least we could do for you because norbert always did for the boys they will miss him dearly
