Peter Narewski Obituary

NAREWSKI, REVEREND PETER J. 86, Pastor Emeritus of Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, Coventry, died Sunday, August 19, 2007.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, a son of the late Witold and Anna (Uniatowska) Narewski, he attended St. Hedwig School and Salesianurm Catholic School in Wilmington, Delaware.

He completed studies for the priesthood at St. Mary College and SS Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, and was ordained a priest on May 31, 1947 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Providence by Bishop Franics P. Keough.

Father Narewski's first assignment was at St. Joseph Church, Central Falls, as assistant pastor. In May 1948 he became administrator of Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, Coventry, then in October 1950 administrator of St. Casimir Church, Warren, where in 1970 he was promoted as pastor. In February 1972 he was transferred as pastor to Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church where he served until August 1986 when he retired due to health problems as pastor emeritus. In addition to his parish duties, Father Narewski was appointed in 1972 as chaplain of Nina Circle #67, West Warwick, Daughters of Isabella and in 1973 Friar of the Knights of Columbus-Father Wallace Assembly.

After his retirement, Fr. Narewski moved to St. John Vianney Residence, Providence. In 2006 he moved to Coral Springs, Florida and recently to Lauderhill, Florida.

Father Narewski leaves a sister, Mrs. Irene Wojcik of Coral Springs, Florida. He was the brother of the late Mrs. Cecelia Falkowski and Edward Narewski. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the Robert A. Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street (RT 117) Coventry, on Friday August 24 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of his soul at Our Lady of Czenstochowa Church, 445 Washington STreet, Coventry, on Saturday, August 25th at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Crompton, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers donations made to Little Sisters Of The Poor, 946 Main St, Pawtucket, RI 02860 will be appreciated.

Father Peter was a good priest. I am sure that he really cared for his parishioners and family in Rhode Island. Their gain was our loss.
