My heartfelt sympathy to the entire Stevens family. He was a wonderful man, and I will always remember him as the man whose smile could light up a room.
Pete, some of my best memories are of sitting in that back booth with my best friends, Patti and Betty. You gave us a safe place to hang out when we were teens. The New York System...YOUR New York System, was the place where all the friends met up after a night out. When the clubs closed...we knew we could go to the New York System and be welcomed. I have such fond memories of that place and it's all because of you and the atmosphere you created. It was the best place to meet, hang out with friends, and have a bite to eat. I remember once not having enough money for the jukebox. You came over to that back booth and handed us 50 cents and said, "Here, have 6 songs on me." You were the best, Pete Stevens! Your New York System to us was like Arnold's on Happy Days...and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the fond memories.

Dear Anne, Greg and Stephanie,
Where do I begin? First off let me offer my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of Pete. I was 15 when I first worked at the NY System (I am now retirement age). Pete taught me how to be the best man I could ever be. I became a wonderful husband, father and friend. He was such a great role model. When I moved to Florida of course we didn't see each other much. On the rare times I did make a trip to RI he was always on my list to see. His friendly disposition and smile made me feel that we were not 1500 miles apart. Anne, I was so honored when you and Pete attended my 25th wedding anniversary a few years ago. I made him sit with my family because I considered him part of my family. He always treated my family and I with respect and dignity and he had that million dollar smile. I will miss him dearly. An icon has truly passed. Thank you, Pete for making me the man that I am today. I know grown men don't cry but I can honestly say that when I think of him and all the great memories we created I will smile and have a gentle tear in my eye. That's how much he meant to me. RIP my mentor, my role model and most of all my friend.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
