PHILIP EDWARDO Obituary

EDWARDO, PHILIP A. JR., 66, of Lake Worth, FL, and, formerly of North Providence, passed away on February 18, 2010.

Phil's greatest joy in life was his family. He and his wife Sandra (Shaw) were married for 44 years, and raised three children, Philip A. Edwardo, III, of Wellington, FL, Stephanie Huling of East Greenwich and Hollie Capuano of Providence. He was a wonderful and supportive Dad who was always full of encouragement and optimism.

Phil was crazy about his grandchildren, Gabriella and Justin Edwardo, and Leah, Catherine and Maya Huling. They will remember their 'Papa' and 'Poppy' as full of life and full of fun.

He was an exceptionally good friend and neighbor, who could always find time for everyone else. He leaves behind dozens of close friends who will miss his camaraderie and warm sense of humor. Phil was a rabid and vocal Yankees fan and an ardent exercise buff who completed the Pan-Mass Challenge bike ride to raise money for cancer. Phil volunteered at St. Ann's Church in Cranston, where he was a communicant for many years.

Phil graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1962, and Providence College in 2000, with a degree in Liberal Arts. He owned and operated the Community Pharmacy in Centerdale, started by his father, and then went on to serve as the Personnel Director for the Town of North Providence from 1975-1996. He was a familiar and welcome presence around Town Hall, and he relished his career in public service. Later he worked for the Lincoln School Department from 1995-1999 and Brooks/Eckerd Pharmacy from 2002 until retiring in May 2008.

Phil was born in Providence, the son of the late Philip A. and Catherine (Landry) Edwardo. He is also survived, and greatly missed, by his sisters, Rosemary Zienowicz and Phyllis Dailey; a niece, Catherine Gallogly and a nephew, David Zienowicz.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 am from the HENAULT- GALLOGLY Funeral Home, 5 Eddy St., (off 1382 Main St.) West Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am in St. Ann Church, 1493 Cranston St., Cranston. Interment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 9 - 10 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Phil's memory may be made to the John E. Fogarty Center, 220 Woonasquatucket Ave., North Providence, RI 02911.
