Richard Recchia Obituary
82, of Johnston, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Paula (Rossignoli) Recchia for 56 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Orlando and Mary (Bruscini) Recchia. Richard graduated from Moses Brown School, Harvard University and University of Bologna Medical School. He interned at RI Hospital and did his residency at Providence Lying-In Hospital.
Dr. Recchia was an Obstetrician and Gynecologist for over 30 years. He was a Fellow of the ACOG, member of the RI Medical Society and the University of Bologna Medical Alumni Association, and a former member of the Alpine Country Club. He also served in the United States Army RI National Guard. He was an avid member of the Cranston Fish and Game Club. Dr. Recchia was truly a Renaissance Man. In addition to being a surgeon, he was a wine/champagne maker, connoisseur, chef, fisherman, hunter, pianist, poet, artist, friend, and was loved and respected by all.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three loving daughters, Lisa Dimitri and her husband William of Johnston, Mariesa Lane of Cranston and Donna Smith and her husband Steven of Providence. He was the cherished grandfather of Alicia and Nicholas Lane, Andrew and Angelica Dimitri and brother of Mary Lou Paolino and her husband Edward of Seekonk.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. Burial will be private. My daughter Deborah was delivered by Dr Recchia . She recently turned 50 . I am so very grateful for his care and kindness to me . I just saw this that he has passed . He was my doc for about 12 years . A wonderful human ..great doctor . Sending my prayers to all his family . May his soul rest in peace

So sorry. I was a patient of Dr Recchia. He was a wonderful person. I will never forget the night he waited with me when my ride was late. He would not leave me waiting in the dark alone. You should be proud of him.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Recchia and family on the passing of a wonderful Doctor. Over 30yrs. ago Dr. Recchia saved my life. So sad to read of the passing of Dr. Recchia. He was the most kind and caring of all the doctors I've ever had.. (I'd had many). He delivered both my boys (now 46 and 44) and my youngest Son, Jody, taught the girls swimming lessons in your back yard. He'll always be remembered and in my prayers...

I prayed for an Easter miracle when I heard about the Doc's condition on Friday and was deeply saddened when my mother told me we lost a dear friend. Of course, the Doc was more than a friend and the obituary beautifully captured the many gifts of a man I loved and respected like my own father. While he is now gone from this earth, his friendship, and the one between our families, will endure forever. God Bless you all.
