Stephen Haley Obituary

HALEY, STEPHEN EDWARD
66, of Richmond, RI lost his brief battle with pancreatic cancer on May 16, 2017. Steve served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, and then later returned home to Warwick to marry his high school sweetheart, Nancy Round. With the GI Bill, he graduated from URI, where he was a member of the Phi Mu Delta fraternity. Together with his wife, they raised two wonderful, intelligent and altruistic daughters, Kaylen Jean Haley of Westminster, CO and Corrie Leigh Haley of Fresno, CA.
Steve was most fortunate to have retired 17 years ago from his profession as a physical education teacher at Pilgrim High School in Warwick. This time allowed him to pursue his many interests and hobbies, as he was the ultimate 'Renaissance man'. He could learn and master anything he set his mind to – even Spanish. He loved the ocean, spending many years boating, quahogging, fishing and lobstering. His brawn, intellect, quick wit and profound sense of humor were his most outstanding traits.
Steve was the son of Jean P. Haley and the late Robert J. Haley, and the nephew of Margaret A. Haley, Mary Haley and Shirley DeSanto. He was the brother of Robert Haley (& his wife, Linda), David Haley (& his wife, Diane), Matt Haley (& his wife, Fran), and Linda Hoopis (& her husband, Chris). Steve was the proud grandfather of Quinn Harper Haley, daughter of Kaylen J. Haley and her wife, Kaylan E. Stinson. He was also the future father-in-law of Anthony J. Randall, who is betrothed to his daughter, Corrie L. Haley.
Steve was the only son-in-law of the late Dr. Charles B. Round and the late Shirley Messinger Round. And he was the brother-in-law of the late Chuck Round (& his wife, Laurie), Mike Round (& his wife, Susan), Donald Round (& his wife, Wilma), Philip Round (& his wife, Beth) and Steve Round (& his wife, Sherrie). Besides his large extended family, he also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends & former students who loved and admired him.
Prior to his death, he expressed that he had no regrets, and his life had been a grand adventure. Steve Haley was one lucky man to have been loved by so many and to have led a life so well-lived. In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions in his memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Research Institute, Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, Save the Bay, or to any charity of your choice. Calling hours and funeral services are respectfully omitted; however, a celebration of Steve Haley's life for family & friends will take place at a future date. www.barrettandcotter.com

I am so sorry for your loss. He was my favorite P.E. teacher, such a good,Kind man. I remember he would wear his varsity sweater from when he went to PHS and I thought that was really cool.

Mr. Haley, great man and great gym teacher, probably one of the favorites of all the students. He didn't take any crap from any students and I think that's why I and everyone else respected him so much. Rest In Peace sir, thank you for being my teacher
