Suzanne Henseler Obituary

HENSELER, SUZANNE M. (McGOLDRICK), 63, of Edmond Drive, a school teacher and member of the North Kingstown Town Council, died Sunday surrounded by her loving family at South County Hospital. She was the beloved wife of John L. Henseler for 41 years.

Born in Brookline, MA, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Evelyn R. (Warren) McGoldrick. Mrs. Henseler received a degree in History and Education from Boston College in 1964. An educator for nearly 30 years, she spent over 20 years teaching at St. Rocco School in Johnston. After serving as a member of the North Kingstown School Committee for over six years, Mrs. Henseler was the State Representative for District 44 for 20 years, serving as Majority Whip of the House from 1992-2002, the first woman to hold that position. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Quonset Point/Davisville Management Corporation, a subsidiary of the state's Economic Development Corporation. Presently, Mrs. Henseler was serving her first term as a member of the North Kingstown Town Council. She was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, where she co-chaired the Capital Campaign.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her three sons and their wives, Sean Patrick Henseler and his wife Laura of West Warwick, Warren Paul Henseler and his wife Karen of Coventry, and Timothy Brian Henseler and his wife Kristen of Attleboro, MA; her brother, Warren McGoldrick of Rumford; and her eight cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Kylea, Meghan, Tyler, Kyle, Luke, Aidan and Trevin Henseler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in St. Francis de Sales Church, 381 School Street, North Kingstown. Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Friday 4-8 p.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Rd., North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Rhode Island Breast Cancer Coalition, 2 Shoppers Park, Coventry, RI 02816 would be greatly appreciated.

To the Henseler family,
On behalf of my family and myself, I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to all of you in this tragic time. Sue will always be remembered for her genuine concern for all of the people that she lived, worked, and played with and most of all their children and the world which they were to grow up in. The residents of the Town of North Kingstown and the State of Rhode Island have lost a great crusader. Sue was born and educated in Massachusetts but she will always be a “True Rhode Islander” as she was always true to Rhode Island. We will miss her sense of caring as much as we will miss her sense of humor. We should all be proud to have had her as our representative and our friend.
