Adeline Thompson Obituary
Chambersburg
Adeline R. Thompson, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, November 11, 2015 at her home after a brief struggle with cancer. Born March 5, 1923 in Toledo, OH, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Bertha Marquardt Merle. She was employed in the Registrar's Office at Wilson College in Chambersburg until her retirement in 1987 after 20 years of service. Mrs. Thompson was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #189 in Tiffin, OH, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Auxiliary, the Chambersburg Quilt Guild, and was a former volunteer at the Chambersburg Hospital. Her husband, Milton L. Thompson, whom she married June 1, 1946, preceded her in death on June 14, 1996.
She is survived by three children, Thomas Milton Thompson and wife Deborah of Seattle, WA, Ann Estep Aldrich and husband Jeff of Chambersburg, and Steven Michael Thompson and wife Teresa of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Bernice LaPlantz of Genoa, OH and Ethel Mobley of Naples, FL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, two brothers, and two infant brothers.
A memorial service to celebrate Adeline's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA. Pastor Mark Ruzika will officiate. The family will receive friends in the parlor one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 1811 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
