Alfred Barr Obituary

Alfred J. "Al" Barr, 76, of 1274 E. Main St., Bradford, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 15, 1941, in Blossburg, he was a son of the late Chester and Iola Barr.
Al enlisted in the United States Army on Jan. 21, 1966. He was an airplane mechanic with the Airborne Division in Roho Bay, Cambodia, during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged as SGT, on Jan. 21, 1968.
On Sept. 11, 1973, in Bradford, he married Virginia L. (Wallace) Barr, who died Sept. 15, 1999; then, on Jan. 26, 2001, in Colts Neck Baptist Church, he married Marjorie L. (Douthit) Evans Barr, who survives.
Mr. Barr had worked for the Railroad, Fairway Ford and Pennzoil, and later, he became self-employed, owning and operating Barr's Service Station from 1994 to 2017.
Al was a member of the Bolivar Drive Baptist Church for over 40 years, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was currently a member of the Faith Baptist Church.
He enjoyed growing flowers and gardening and riding his Kubota with Margie and his dog. He was a NASCAR fan, with Bill Elliott being his favorite driver.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Michele Barr-Burkett and husband Tim Burkett, of Gifford; two stepdaughters, Kathleen Evans-Langford and husband Jan, of Trussville, Alabama, and Cindy Monti and husband Patrick, of Pelham, Alabama; one grandson, Raven Burkett; two granddaughters, Katie Monti and Brooke Monti; one sister, Lynn (Dave) Harris of Blossburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Arlene Wickman and Virginia; one brother, Cedar Barr; and one sister, Vallie Atwell.
Family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes, Inc, 372 E. Main St., Bradford, and again on Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon, at which time funeral services will be held with the Rev. Gary Smith, pastor of the Faith Baptist Church, officiating.
Committal services and full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 108 in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Faith Baptist Church or the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department.
