Joshua Conrad Obituary

Joshua James Conrad, 44, of Punxsutawney, died peacefully on Wednesday May 7, 2025, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with his family by his side.
He was born Feb. 19, 1981, in Brookville, son of Karen (Secrest) and Larry Conrad.
On Aug. 9, 2003, he married his high school sweetheart, Emily Dean. They shared 21 years of marriage and three amazing boys.
Josh was a proud graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School Class of 1999. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Loyola University in New Orleans and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh.
In 2004, he returned home to begin his 20-year teaching career with the Punxsutawney Area School District. He taught social studies at the high school. Through the years, Josh was the boys golf coach, Mock Trial and National Honor Society advisor, and assisted with union contract negotiations. He was a strong supporter of our public schools and understood the value of a solid education.
Josh enjoyed coaching little league baseball, fly fishing, golfing and tending a garden. He loved to travel and run his dog, Luna, on the family farm.
Above all, Josh was a devoted husband, father and loyal friend to many. His wife and three boys, Owen James, Miles Thomas, and Henry "Boo" Max, were his reason for living. Josh battled metastatic colorectal cancer for four and a half years. A true fighter, he never backed down. He endured countless surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. Through it all, he continued to work and support the family that he loved.
Along with his wife and three boys at home, Josh is survived by his parents, sister Michele Ojo-Ade and husband Adedokun "Ade" Ojo-Ade of Silver Spring Maryland, and their children Remi and Zeke; mother-in-law Marty Burleigh of Punxsutawney; brother-in-law Jeff Dean and significant other Haley Thomas of Greensburg; and many extended family members.
Josh was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Helen Conrad; maternal grandparents Miriam and Madison Secrest; and father-in-law Tom Burleigh.
At Josh's request, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Instead, a celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney. Online condolences may be made at www.deeleyfuneralhome.com.

One of the best teachers Punxsy had. I’m so sad to hear of this and sending the family and friends sympathy and love. He came into my work often and I didn’t even know he was sick. He always had a big smile on his face and didn’t show any signs of being unwell. It breaks my heart to hear that he is gone and he will be dearly missed!

Though I never had the pleasure of meeting Josh, it appears he was an INCREDIBLE man, loved and respected by many. I was friends with his mother Karen, at Sunday school & church, and the same high school class. My sincere sympathy to his family. Deepest condolences, Shelly Sloniger / Lerch

Everyone should be so lucky as to have a friend like Josh in their life. He was someone who always brought a smile, a funny story, an amusing take on a situation and often some delicious corn or honey or hamburgers from the farm. To learn life lessons from someone so young was a bonus. He was the real deal!

One of my favorite teachers from PAHS, I’ll never forget you telling us your opinions about the world, the advice you gave us, and how you told us to always use the fifth amendment. Thank you for bringing me happiness and for being a great overall teacher. Rest easy and fly high Mr. Conrad. I will miss you.

Dearest Emily, Son's, Marty, and Josh's Family. My heart is "crushed" for All of Your Families. I just read Josh's obituary. What a Life Well Lived!!! You were all " Very Fortunate" to have shared your life with him. I know this is a painful time for "All" of you. I wish there was a way I could take it from each of you for "Comfort"! May God send Angels to wrap their arms around each of you & collect all of your tears to water the beautiful garden of Josh's plants that he so tenderly cared for...I love you All. My prayers are with you. God Bless..

One of my absolute favorite teachers and one of the best people. My favorite part of the day was being in your class and just BS’ing about music and the world and even just being in your presence, I cherished every second. You had the best ultimate sense of humor and always knew how to put a smile on everybody’s face. We need more teachers and mentors like you in this world! Thank you for everything Mr. Conrad, I will never forget you and our chats, and the impact you left on me. You will be missed dearly. ❤
