L.T. (BUCK) BALDWIN
L.T. (Buck) Baldwin, a 48 year resident of PVE passed away at home on July 5, 2022 at the age of 92 with his wife, Wanda and daughter, Deborah holding his hands.
Levis Thatcher Baldwin was born on September 9, 1929 in Ardmore, Pennsylvania. He attended Lower Merion High School as well as Haverford Prep School in the Philadelphia area before attending Pennsylvania State University where he received his degree in Engineering. Upon graduation he was commissioned into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a First Lieutenant. First Lieutenant Baldwin served in the Korean War with the US Army Corps of Engineers building airstrips and supply lines in France. He was stationed in France with his wife during this time. After being discharged from the Army in 1954 he returned to civilian life and started a family.
He spent the greater part of his career working for Xerox Corporation beginning in Rochester, New York. In 1974 he transferred to Los Angeles with Xerox to oversee product manufacturing of a new product coming on market. He loved California and wanted to make sure he could finish out his career in the sunshine before retiring from Xerox. He accepted another position as Vice President of Manufacturing for CalComp Corporation which became a Lockheed Company and he was offered a Golden Parachute retirement from Lockheed Corporation. Still too young to retire, he started selling real estate for Coldwell Banker in Palos Verdes and was a top producer for many years until he retired again.
As a long-standing resident of PVE he belonged to the PV Breakfast Club and served on numerous committees as well as president of the Club. He owned a condo in the Mammoth Ski and Racquet Club where he served on the board of directors for many years and was known as the "harmonizer".
Buck was preceded in death by his first wife Jean, of 48 years, who passed away in 1999. He was lucky enough to find love again when he met Wanda at St. Francis Episcopal Church in 2001 and married her in 2002. For the past 20 years they have had a wonderful life of socializing with friends and traveling the world together.
He was a devoted husband who cherished his wife Wanda and did not want to leave this world, but he stayed as long as he could. He loved his daughter Deborah Austin and was a proud loving grandfather to Abbie Fletcher and her husband Blake Fletcher. He adored his great granddaughters Stella and Claire Fletcher. He also is survived by his first wife's brother, Theodore Phillips, who has remained a close family member over the years.
Buck was a bigger than life character who was loved and admired by all and will surely be missed by all who knew him. His positive spirit will live on in all of us forever.
No events are scheduled at this time but donations to honor him may be sent to: The Torrance Memorial Hospital Foundation, 3330 Lomita Blvd., Torrance, CA 90505
