James Frank "Jim" Rideout Sr.

JAMES FRANK RIDEOUT, SR. James "Jim" Frank Rideout, Sr., 81, of Pahrump passed away peacefully, Mon., Jan. 8, 2018 at his home with family nearby. Jim was born June 19, 1936 in Bristol, Conn. to Searle and Ethel (Cole) Rideout, Sr. At a young age, his family moved to East Winn, Maine, a place he fondly referred to as his hometown. He graduated with the Class of 1953 from Lee Academy in Lee, Maine. Returning to Bristol, he met his first and only wife of 61 years, Ruth Anna Brouker. They were married on Feb. 25, 1956 and moved to Wolcott, Conn. where they raised a family, cared for extended family, and became grandparents. Jim worked as a machinist and was highly respected in his field. In the 70's, he was co-owner of Race Manufacturing, Inc., in Bristol Conn., and in the mid-80's, he opened his own shop, JR Manufactuing in Wolcott, Conn. Vacationing in Las Vegas, Jim and Ruth fell in love with the activity, community and warm weather. They settled there upon retirement and quickly set up their roots. Soon after, they became actively involved in local and church communities. Jim served in elected positions on the neighborhood association board and with his strong business sense, provided invaluable leadership. Jim also became a lay preacher and deacon serving in worship, pastoral care, administrative committees at several churches, and even had a cameo as a preacher in a movie. He enjoyed building with his hands, staying active, and helping others. Jim was predeceased by sons, Dean and Mark Rideout; granddaugher, Jenifer Rideout; brother, Paul Rideout; and sister, Vivian Vance. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Pahrump; son, James F. Rideout, Jr., Terryville, Conn.; daughter Joyce (John) Rioux, Ellington, Conn.; daugher, Lynda Rideout, Pahrump; five grandchildren, Kristina Rioux, Robyn Carreras, Michelle Daveluy, Robert Rideout, and Morgan Daveluy; two great - grandchildren, Calvin and Julian; and a sister, Dorothy Lee. At Jim's request, his body will be donated to science to advance health providers' education. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Central Valley Baptist Church, Pahrump, on Feb. 10 at 11:00 am. A Connecticut service will be held with family and friends in March. In the meantime, may everyone hold fast to their memories, cherished moments, blessings and laughter, joys and celebrations, and even sorrow and tears. They all add up to a treasure of fond yesterdays that have been shared and spent together. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested that donations be made to Central Valley Baptist Church Building Fund, 3170 South Blagg Road, Pahrump, NV 89048.
