Barbara Elaine (DeBrusselles) Ong
September 4, 1929-January 23, 2022
TONICA-Barbara Elaine (DeBrusselles) Ong, 92, of Tonica passed away on January 23, 2022 at Manor Court of Peru.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at the Hurst Funeral Home in Tonica with Rev. Mark Nowakowski officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 AM until time of services.
Mrs. Ong was born in Ottawa on September 4, 1929 to Benjamin and Elaine (Parsons) DeBrusselles. Barbara graduated from Ottawa High School and Ottawa Nursing School with an RN degree. Barbara married Melvin "Mel" Ong on January 5, 1951. Barbara worked as an RN in El Paso, TX, Libby Owens Ford in Ottawa, IL, and Good Samaritan in Geneseo, IL. After living many years in Geneseo, Barb and Mel moved to Tonica where they operated a Christmas tree farm.
Mrs. Ong is survived by daughters Cynthia (Bill) Ong Leach, Patricia (Bart) Ong Sheffer; son Marvin (Marlene) Ong; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one sister Joan Klag of Ottawa.
She was preceded in death her husband Melvin, her parents, and one son Gary Ong.
Memorials may be directed to Tonica United Methodist Church, Tonica Volunteer Fire Department, or American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
