Carl "John" Freeman, 74, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at UnityPoint Trinity, Rock Island.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2024, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented.
Memorials may be made in care of the Vietnam Veterans of America Post #299.
John was born Moline, IL, on June 21, 1950, a son of Carl and Elizabeth Schatteman Freeman. John married Katherine Grossell on July 31, 1971, in Milan, IL.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran.
John worked as a mechanic for the City of Rock Island, retiring in 2012. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed local dirt track and slot car racing. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy Freeman, Rock Island; father, Carl Freeman, Silvis; children: Matthew (Roxanne) Freeman, Moline, Laurie (Kevin) Holmes, Ocean Springs, MS, and Andrew (Sarah) Freeman, Rock Island; grandchildren: Paige, Matthew, Rocquelle, Brittany, Caleb, Alexis, Mariah, Kelsey, AJ, Keirah, Kynzie and Ashton; great-grandchildren: Wesley, Giovanni, LaMaree and Darcyn; brother, Gary (Suze) Freeman, Hampton; and sister-in-law, Cindy Freeman, St. Peter, MN.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Freeman; granddaughter, Devan; sister, Peggy Freeman; and brother, Tom Freeman.

I am very sorry to hear about John´s passing. We were friends all through high school. He was a good person and I am sure a wonderful father. I have not seen him for a while last time. Was that a class reunion so my thoughts and prayers are with all of you and again I am very sorry for his passing.

The best of blessings to you. I wish I could have seen all of you more.i don´t know who got me removed from family but my love for all of you never stopped and very sad holidays until mom asked Glen to come back. My life began again be strong, grief will always be there you lost a good spouse, friend, and love.
