Charles Louis Menzer

SHERRARD-Charles Louis Menzer, 71, of Sherrard, Illinois, passed away Tuesday April 18, 2023 at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral services will be 12:00pm Saturday April 22, 2023 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10:00am to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sherrard Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the family for a future donation to the Augustana Basketball Program. A memorial service will be planned for May in Hillsboro, Illinois.
Charles was born on June 16, 1951 in Hillsboro, IL, the son of Charles Lipe Menzer and Ruby (Harrison) Menzer. He married Gloria (Wygal) Menzer on Valentine's Day in 1999 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.
Throughout high school Chuck was busy in basketball, singing as a baritone in choir and playing in band. Many knew he was a talented trumpet player, most didn't know he was a phenomenal piano player as well. He graduated in 1969 and to further his education and play basketball he went to Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. He graduated from Augustana College in 1973 with a Bachelors Degree.
He retired in 2001 from Roadway Express after 20 years as relay coordinator. Chuck and Gloria made their home in Fyre Lake where they loved music, yardwork, and water activities with family and friends. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, but especially Augustana basketball. His 1973 Augustana team was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Chuck himself was inducted into the Hillsboro High School Hall of Fame in February 2022.
Chuck was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a board member of Bridging the Gap. He loved playing and watching basketball, spending time on the lake and listening to music.
Survivors: Wife Gloria Menzer in Sherrard, IL, Step-children Brad Mazenko (Bonnie Case) in Greenville, IL sons Caleb & Braden in Litchfield, IL and Melanie (Craig) Rubemeyer children Dustin (Jada), Olivia & Mariska in Davenport, IA; daughters Trista (Nick) Foster children Audrey & Hunter in Sherrard, IL, Tagen (Brian) Dressman children Daxton and Andon in Bettendorf, IA, Taryn (Brent) Riley son Beckham in Coal Valley, IL and Step-grandson Skyler Tipton in DeWitt, Iowa; nephews Chris (Stacie) Wygal sons Colby & Caden in Litchfield, IL, Chad Wygal in Hillsboro, IL and Zach Wygal in Hillsboro, IL.
Preceded in death by: parents Charles and Ruby Menzer, Father-in-law Maurice Wygal
