Harold Bergee Obituary

Harold Bergee

July, 7, 2023

MOLINE-Dr. Harold Bergee passed away peacefully on July, 7, 2023, surrounded by family. He was 92 years old. A native Iowan and University of Iowa alumnus, Dr. Bergee spent the majority of his life and career in Moline, Illinois. During his long career as a radiologist, he pioneered several interventional radiography techniques in both the diagnosis and treatment of disease. He was the first in the Quad Cities to perform arteriograms along with many other life-saving radiology procedures

Harold loved his family and is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 65 years, four children, and six grandchildren. He enjoyed playing sports, particularly softball and golf. Harold was kind-hearted, maintained high standards, and was always an optimist. He loved animals and many times rescued injured wildlife brought home by his children. Harold was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy. He shared his love of travel with his wife, who joined him in traveling the world and on international medical missions.

Throughout his life Dr. Bergee served the public in numerous ways as an advocate for improved healthcare opportunities and by serving on many boards and committees.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 19, 2023. Please check back at www.RaffertyFunerals.com for further arrangements. The burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 246, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Living Lands & Waters, Doctors Without Borders, The American Red Cross.

I loved working with Dr. Bergee I worked in Coronary care for 17 years. He was the smartest, kindest, most interesting Dr.
When our paths crossed following his retirement, I enjoyed his stories...he was such a wealth of information and firsts! I really wanted him to write a book!! An honor to have known him. Such a treasure

I think my brother Richard Griswold and Harold were good friends in high school in Fort Madison, Iowa. I remember hearing Harold Bergee's name often as I grew up. His name was always associated with kindness and goodness.
