James Gulley

January 14, 1924 - March 8, 2026

Dr. James W. Gulley, Sr., 102, of Silvis, formerly of Moline, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2026 at Clarissa C. Cooke Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, March 16, 2026 at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111-1st St A, Moline with visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 246, Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Clarissa C. Cooke Hospice House.

Jim was born January 14, 1924 in Marion, Ill., the son of Elmer and Lydia Mae (Maxwell) Gulley. He married Olga Tzeplaeff on June 23, 1946 in Paris, France. She preceded him in death October 17, 2011.

Jim worked as an Optometrist in the Quad City area for almost 50 years.

Jim was a member of American Legion Post 246 where he served as Commander and Rock Island Conservation Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography and gardening.

Survivors include his son, James "Jim" (Judy) Gulley, Jr., Castle Hayne, N.C.; grandchildren, Alex Gulley, Matt Nimrick, Tony (Rachel) Gulley, Adam Gulley and Nathan Nimrick. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sonia Nimrick; sister, Betty Maitland; and brothers, Wayne, Robert and Fred Gulley.
