James Robert Hurd, age 77, of East Moline, Illinois died at 11:56 a.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Unity Point Trinity in Rock Island, Illinois.
He was born on January 12, 1948 in Moline, Illinois the son of George W. and Leaveu Leona (Brown) Hurd. He graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, Illinois. He served in the United States Air Force from September 21, 1967 to September 20, 2071 during the Vietnam War. He married Jon Collins in 1975.
Surviving are his children: James (Sherrie) Hurd of St. Augustine, Florida, Scott (Jennifer) Hurd of Ft. Myers, Florida, Lori Hurd of Moline, Illinois and Bobbi Jo (Martin) Mason of Buckeye, Arizona; Grandchildren: Miranda Hurd, Gabby (Austin) Solomon, Allison Hurd, Mariah Clement, Olivia (Landon) Wallenkamp, Kailee Hurd, Brandon Hurd and Broc Hurd; Great-grandchildren: Aurora Hurd, McKenzie Moss, Freya and Thomas Solomon; and Jon Collins, East Moline; siblings: John (Tommie) Hurd of Watertown, Wisconsin and Patti Haney Ward of Geneseo, Illinois; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hurd of Knoxville, Illinois; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George W. Hurd, Jr.
He retired from John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline August of 2015. He loved golfing and bowling.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois is assisting the family with his wishes.
