I am deeply saddened to learn of LaNeva's passing. I pray she and mom (Lavona Mader Bahnks) are together again. LaNeva was an incredibly kind and loving friend to my mom and our family. She was truly selfless in her neverending role as my mom's "hearing helper". They had a special bond. LaNeva turned a blind eye to the fact that mom was deaf. She helped mom at school - making sure she knew what the teacher said when turning her back, while still talking and writing on the blackboard. She shared her notes and made sure mom knew the assignments, understood the announcements, etc. I imagine that wasn't a socially acceptable nor popular role. They were friends for life though. The Marlier family included ours in their annual family picnics and I grew up with her children only a few blocks from our house. LaNeva lived a good life, helping those around her and at our church; yet, never expected praise. She was a blessing.
