Dr. Mark R. Henry

BATTLE CREEK, MI-Dr. Mark R. Henry, 61, died of complications of Covid-19 on Dec. 12, 2020.
He was born Dec. 5, 1959 in Hawthorne, CA. He attended schools in Glastonbury, Conn. for 5 years; German schools in Sindelfingen, Germany for 2 years; Monmouth, Illinois schools for 2 years; and then Glenview Jr. High and UTHS, graduating in the class of 1978. He graduated from DePauw University with a B.S. degree, and from the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago. He was a family doctor in Battle Creek, Michigan from 1989 until his death.
At UTHS, Mark played basketball his freshman year and played tuba in the band. He was in an Explorer Scout group sponsored by Illini Hospital, and was a National Merit scholar. He also attended Boys' State.
Mark started his family practice career in Battle Creek, MI in 1989, later opening Wattles Park Family Practice where he continued to practice and act as the Medical Director for Integrated Health Partners. He was on faculty at Western Michigan School of Medicine and had a passion for teaching and mentoring a nurse practitioner and medical students.
Mark also took part in mission trips to Zambia, Moldova, and (three times) to the Philippines.
Surviving are his wife Gwendolyn Henry; his children Dr. David Henry, Mary Kathryn Henry, Jonathan "Jakk" Henry, and Andrew "AJ" Henry; his step-children Amber (Frank) Straub and Corey (Shaunna) Teinert; three step-grandchildren Wyett Teinert, Ava Straub, and Trevor Teinert; his parents, Dr. Richard (Cheryl) Henry, East Moline; Sally (Jesse) Ivy, Bettendorf; three brothers Dr. Scott (Terri) Henry, Sioux Falls, Keith (Brenda) Henry, Nampa, Idaho, and Derek (Gina) Henry, Seattle, Washington; and seven nieces and nephews, and four great-nieces and -nephews.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be announced at a later date.
