August 10, 1949 - October 20, 2025
Martin John Calmer, 76, of Milan, Ill., passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. Cremation rites have been accorded with the Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull, Ill.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 31, 2025, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Interment will be at the Woodhull Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or to the New Kingdom Trailriders. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.
Martin was born August 10, 1949 in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Virgil Lamar Calmer and Rose Valentine Knapp Calmer. He graduated from AlWood High School with the Class of 1967. He then earned an associate's degree in electronic technology from Black Hawk College; a bachelor's degree in electronic engineering technology from Bradley University; and a master's degree in business from St. Ambrose University.
Martin spent most of his career as an educator. He taught at Moline High School, Black Hawk College and many other manufacturing facilities. Alongside being an educator, Martin also owned and operated his own farm.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three siblings, Donavin (Miriam) Calmer of Broken Arrow, Okla., Dennis (Brenda) Calmer of Morton, Ill., Marion (Charla) Calmer of Alpha, Ill.; six nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Rose Calmer; paternal grandparents, A.S "Doc" and Myrtle Calmer; and maternal grandparents, John and Icle Knapp.

Many years ago, I taught with Marty at Moline HS. I remember his ever present smile and twinkle in his eye. It was evident he enjoying teaching and he definitely made a difference. My sympathy to his family. May he RIP.
