MOLINE - Robert Eston Moody, 96, of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Overlook Village, Moline.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday, October 21, at First Baptist Church, Moline, with The Rev. Flint Miller officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to the church.

Robert Eston Moody was born April 21, 1928, in Byrdstown, Tennessee, the son of Robert "Edd" and Orpha (Storie) Moody. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force from June 1951 to June 1955, serving one year in Korea during the war as a weather observer. He married Melba Simon on September 4, 1955, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Melba was from Fall City, Nebraska.

Robert earned a BS Degree from Tennessee Tech University and a Masters Degree from Western Illinois University. He was a math teacher for four years at Coolidge Jr. High School, 22 years at Wilson Jr. High School where he was department chairman, and nine years at Moline High School, retiring in 1992 after 35 years.

After retiring, he did volunteer tutoring at Moline High School, worked on Habitat for Humanity houses, and drove cancer patients for treatments.

He has been an active member of First Baptist Church of Moline for 66 years, starting in 1958, and serving on many boards and committees.

Robert was a life member of the National Teacher's Association, Moline Masonic Lodge #214, and Moline American Legion Post 246. He was a member of Scottish Rites Bodies of Moline, and Wheel N' Steppers square dance club, and Korean War Veterans Association.

He enjoyed golfing, square dancing, bowling, downhill skiing, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Melba; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry and Janine Moody of Olympia, Wash., Kenneth Moody of St. Petersburg, Fla; daughter, Teresa Moody of Springfield, Ill.; grandchildren, Laura and Matthew Moody; sister, Faye Davis of Livingston, Tenn.; and brother, Gene Moody of Daleville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mavis Hopper, Pauline Parrigin, Hazel Peterson, and Mildred Winningham; and brother, Carl Moody.
