Sharron K. Ziel
December 23, 1943-January 11, 2023
ROCK ISLAND-Sharron K. Ziel, 79, of Rock Island, passed away, Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Moline.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Evangelical Free Church. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family.
Sharron was born on December 23, 1943, in Moline, the daughter of Harold and Pauline (Scranton) Bedford. She married her high school sweetheart, James Ziel, on June 17, 1966. He preceded her in death in 2022. She studied elementary education and later practiced this passion in the classroom, at Shepherd's Fold Preschool at her church, and tutoring.
Sharron was creative- painting, sewing, and baking – and, also, communicative- remembering to send a card for every occasion or just keeping up with her grandkids. Even when it was difficult, she made the effort to be present at important family events, whether that meant hours in the car or a cross-country train trip. She gave generously: financially, of her time in preparing a meal or treats for church, and even with great back scratches. Sharron and Jim worked as a team to provide a hospitable place for people's spiritual growth and valued dedicating time to prayer.
Her loss is grieved in hope as she celebrates the fully realized new life she is experiencing with her Savior. Memorial service to be announced.
Survivors include her children: Cathy (Hank) Vejvoda, Carrie (Chris) Walter, and David (Angie) Ziel; grandchildren: Grace, Rose, and Adeline Vejvoda, and Nate, Abbie, and Eli Walter; brother, Mike (Cathy) Bedford; brother-in-law, Bill Ziel; sister-in-law, Janet (Dennis) Huber; and her Christian family at First Evangelical Free Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, James Bedford; sister-in-law, Sharon Ziel.
