Phillip Powers Memoriam

Conchas Dam - Dr. Phillip David "Doc" Powers, age 75, passed away peacefully in his home in Port O'Connor, Texas on Monday, March 4, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Doc was born in Spirit Lake, Iowa on July 16, 1948, to Glen and Irene (Nelson) Powers. After graduating from Indianola High School in Iowa, he completed his undergraduate degree at Eastern New Mexico University before attending Logan College of Chiropractic in St Louis, Missouri. After graduation, he moved to Tucumcari where he cared for patients, his family, and the community for more than 25 years before moving to Las Vegas, NM where he continued to practice for 10 more years.
Dr. Powers served on the Tucumcari school board, Tucumcari Area Vocational School board, volunteered as a Cub Scouts master, was involved in both the Lion's and Elk's clubs, served on the Tucumcari zoning and planning commission and volunteered as the PRCA Rodeo Chairman in Tucumcari. Doc was also a member of the American Legion at his second home at Conchas Lake.
A man of many talents, he spent time farming, building, and remodeling homes, restoring old cars and motorcycles, flying airplanes, singing, playing the guitar, banjo and piano, spending time on the boat fishing, riding Harleys, snow skiing, water skiing, racing dirt bikes in his younger years and a host of other hobbies. Most of all, he cherished sharing his life's adventures with the love of his life and soulmate, Diana, and spending time with his children and grandchildren who were his pride and joy.
God was always at the center of Doc's life, and he referred to Jesus Christ as his partner. He had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone.
He had lifelong friends and never met a stranger. He played the role of both parents to his children, never missing an activity or sporting event they were involved in. His children called him every Mother's Day to wish him a Happy Mother's Day and did the same on Father's Day.
He will be remembered as humble, warm, and caring with a servant heart and fierce loyalty to his friends and family.
Phil is survived by his loving wife, Diana, his four children, Shawn (Dena) Powers of McKinleyville, California, Dawn (Chris) Duhon of Lucas, Texas, Lana (Chris) Jasper of Prosper, Texas and Phillip (Misty) Powers of Lubbock, Texas, 11 Grandchildren, Father-In-Law A.W. Orthman, brothers Doug Powers of Tucumcari, NM and Steve (Roxanne) Davis of Fallon, Nevada, and Brother-in-law Randy Schuster of Pendaries, NM, along with 7 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving Sister, Pamela Schuster, parents, Glen and Irene Powers, Mother-in-law Edith Orthman, and Niece Stephanie Davis.
He will be missed tremendously by all who loved him. To live in the hearts of those who loved you is to never die. The Powers family would like to thank Doc's Niece, Natalie Schuster, for helping the family so much during this difficult time.
A celebration of life memorial will be held at 1pm on Monday, March 11th, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Tucumcari, 321 E Center Street.

Dearest Diana and family. Our condolences for your loss. There are no words to ever say how great a human being Dr. Powers was. Diana, you and doc were made for one another, and I am so glad you found that love in this lifetime. And to hear him talk about his family you could just hear the love and happiness in his voice. He will be missed by all of those whose lives he touched. God bless all of you and give you strength as a family to always remember the happiness and love Doc blessed you with.

I am sorry to hear of Phillip´s passing. I grew up with Phillip in Indianola, Iowa. My father, Dr Carl "Doc" Lundahl counseled and sponsored Phil at Logan Chiropractic College. He was so proud of Phillip´s accomplishments!!
The Powers family has always had a special place in the Lundahl families heart. God bless...

I met Doc when I first came to Tucumcari, working at the Six Shooter. Needless to say there never was a dull moment when I was partying with him. You'll be deeply missed Doc by all. RIP now you can ride with Billy in heaven...till we meet again and ride ... Love Iowa

Powers Family,
I was saddened to read that Dr. Powers passed away. I was fortunate enough to work at Powers Chiropractor in Tucumcari during my summer and winter breaks from college. The Powers Family was always a foundation of strength within their tight knit family circle. Dr. Powers lived life to the fullest whether at the lake, golfing, farming or providing a much needed back adjustment too his many patients.
