Dale Donald Schlapkohl
June 12, 1953 - July 10, 2024
Dale Donald Schlapkohl, gone too young at age 71, was born on June 12, 1953, to Don and Lenora (Otto) Schlapkohl. He passed away peacefully at his home on July 10, 2024.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. There will be no services.
Dale, the youngest of three boys, was destined from a young age to take over the family farm located just north of Durant, Iowa. He took great pride in being a farmer and had an immensely successful grain and livestock operation for over 50 years. That success could not have been achieved without Diane and the local farming community by his side.
Beyond farming, Dale was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed kayaking and fishing.
Despite the demands of farm life, he enjoyed traveling and carved out time to see many parts of the United States with his family, whether it was an RV trip to South Dakota, summers camping and kayaking along the Maquokata River, or trips to Disney World over the years.
Dale will always be remembered for his piercing blue eyes, his exuberant and outgoing personality, his deep commitment to farming, his passion for collecting pottery and other beautiful antiques, tracking and talking about the weather, and logging many hours on his favorite mower.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jill and Annie, who forever carry with them his strength, his profound love for the land, and his enduring spirit. Dale's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by Jill (Wells) Wilson and Annie Barclay (Kurtis Baumann). His grandchildren: Elliott, Evelyn and Eden. His brothers: Dan (Sharon) Schlapkohl and Tom (Lana) Schlapkohl. He is proceeded in death by his parents.

Annie and Family. So sorry for your loss. We enjoyed seeing Dale on his golf cart daily taking Eden or the doggies for a ride. Or...making the most perfect lines in the yard when mowing. Hugs to you all.

Seems so unfair and sad for a good young man like Dale to pass far too soon. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

To the family of Dale, our deepest condolences go out to you all. Although he was a few years behind his brother, Tom and I in school, he always seemed more like a classmate to me. Over the years Ron and I would periodically run into Dale in an antique store, at a flea market, or in town. He always welcomed us with a huge smile and a friendly hug. It is hard to believe his gone so soon. However, your memories will keep him alive in your hearts forever. Ron and Cindy Helmold
