Don Garrison Obituary

Don William Garrison passed away Wednesday February 4 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House surrounded by family.

A celebration of life will take place on a later date at St Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.

Don was born August 27,1937 to Charles and Mildred Garrison in Hammond,Indiana. He married Sally (Akers) Garrison on August 19,1956. He graduated from Peru High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University with a BS in Engineering. He went on to receive his MBA from The University of Iowa.

After graduating from Purdue, he started his career working for National Homes. He oversaw multiple home building projects taking place in Kansas. He went on to work for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and Hon Furniture in Muscatine, before landing at the Rock Island Arsenal working at The Army Management Engineering and Technology Academy in July of 1965. It was later named Army Management Engineering College. While there, he taught management classes to the Military, and also wrote books on Total Quality Management. He would often travel the US and a few times overseas teaching. He retired in late 1990, and went on to do some consulting for the government and then in the public sector.

He was a long-time member of the Mississippi Valley Chapter and President (76'77' ) of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, INC. He was a member of the Honorary Management Fraternity at the University of Iowa. He and his wife, Sally were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 40 years, and were longtime choir members.

Don was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed fixing and selling cars, many to family friends. He had a knack for fixing things.

Don is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sally. Children Jay (Teresa), Karen, and Ken (Gerri), 9 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and a sister, Joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Gary.
