Douglas "Doug" F. Butler, Jr.
February 20, 1944 - February 5, 2024
Douglas "Doug" F. Butler, Jr., (79) of Bettendorf, IA, peacefully passed on February 5, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, after a battle with heart disease and diabetes.
Born on February 20, 1944, Doug's journey began in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Seymour High School. In 1962, Doug married the love of his life, Sandra Kay (Shriver) Butler, and celebrated over 61 years of marriage in Bettendorf. They were blessed with three daughters, Lori (Dennis) Born, Deb (Scott) Wagner, and Nicole (Howard) Stanton. Doug was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, finding immense joy in attending his grandchildren's activities, and cheering for Bettendorf & Iowa Hawkeye football.
He attended St. Ambrose University while dedicating 30 years of service to Alcoa before retiring.
Doug enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, and woodworking. His passion for golf was evident through his dedication to Sunrise Golf Course where he spent much of his time. In honor of this commitment, the family welcomes memorial contributions toward the placement of a commemorative bench at the course.
Doug's humor, onery grin with a twinkle in his eye, and soft heart will be missed by many, but his legacy lives on through his wife, daughters, eight grandchildren, great-grandson, and sister, Ann (Wendall) Agan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Edith (Snider) Reed; and brother, James David "Dave" LaDouceur.
The visitation is Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport, IA, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. A light lunch will be served at 12:00 pm. Doug will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.
