Gilbert Lewis, 79, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 4, 2024, at Ss Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. Gilbert will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Gilbert Wayne Lewis was born August 10, 1945, in Geneseo, Illinois, the son of Harold and Marion (Owens) Lewis. He attended Geneseo High School and worked for nearly 40 years at Case IH in East Moline, Illinois. In retirement, he formed his own business, Lewis Painting and Design. He was a member of the Colona, Illinois Fire Department for 15 years, serving as Chief for 5 years. Gilbert married Roberta Kinney Sievers on October 8, 2004, increasing his family from 2 children to 6.
Above all, Gilbert was a devoted family man who cherished every moment with his loved ones, finding his greatest joy in watching his family grow. His face would light up whenever he was surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in their laughter and joining in their play. Gilbert's dedication to his family was as unwavering as his commitment to his faith. He took immense pride in passing down his values of hard work, integrity, and resilience to the next generation. Those who knew him will remember him as a humble, gentle soul.
He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Roberta; children, Lorrie (Randy) Winters of Colona, Illinois, Gerry (Becky) Lewis of Moline, Illinois, Amanda (Ken) DeWulf of Maquoketa, Robert Sievers of Calamus, Anthony Sievers of Wheatland, and Grant Sievers of Calamus; grandchildren, Ashley (Jordan) Hoover, Amber Winters, Emilee Lewis, Charlotte and Nolan DeWulf, Alexandria, Avery, and Henry Sievers; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Audrey Hoover; his brother, Harold E. Lewis Jr.; many loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
He is reunited in Heaven with his parents, brothers, Ronald Lewis, and Kenneth (Jean) Lewis, and in-laws, Clarence and Grace Kinney.
