Glenne Marie Bowers, 104, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on March 27, 2026 at the Kahl Home. Born May 6, 1921, in Davenport, she was the daughter of Nellie (Burdick) and William MacKenzie. Glenne graduated from Davenport High School.

Glenne built a career marked by quiet determination and trailblazing service. Glenne worked at Airtress Midland sewing canteen bottles for the Army during WWII. She was the first female secretary to the Davenport Chief of Police, Les Jurgens, and worked in that role for several years-earning respect through her detailed work, steady professionalism, and the way she always held her own, with a sense of humor that stayed with her throughout her life.

Glenne was first married to Jacob Smith (1892–1975). She later married Russell Bowers in 1983, who preceded her in death in 1996.

A woman of many interests and talents, Glenne found joy in photography-developing and enlarging her own photographs with care and precision. She also enjoyed genealogy, wrote many poems, and lovingly tended to her orchids.

Those left to honor Glenne include her nieces, Irene (Corwin) McDuffy, Mardella (MacKenzie) Brown, Julie (MacKenzie) Mulholland, and Joan (MacKenzie) Moad. Great nephew, Michael Lines, devoted many hours helping Glenne maintain her independence at home. There are numerous other grandnieces and grandnephews as well.

Glenne was preceded in death by her husbands; her parents; and her siblings, Mildred Corwin, William "Van" MacKenzie, Florence B. Piersall, Mary E. MacKenzie, and Ernest "Palmer" MacKenzie.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Weerts Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. Glenne will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park.
