Kenneth Ewoldt Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Ewoldt

March 1, 1938 - September 4, 2025

Kenneth Wayne Ewoldt, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Clover Ridge Place in Maquoketa, Iowa, at the age of 87. Born March 1, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa, Kenneth was the youngest of ten children born to Otto Theodore and Hilda Katherine (Kluever) Ewoldt. He was a graduate of LeClaire High School, class of 1956.

On August 30, 1959, Kenneth married the love of his life, Mary Joanne Soltau, at Zion Lutheran Church in Princeton, Iowa. Together, they built a life filled with love, and the joy of raising their three children, Beth, Guy, and Amanda.

After high school, Kenneth embarked on a career spanning over four decades with Alcoa in Riverdale, Iowa, where he was a respected forklift operator. His love for the land led him to farm with his father, and in 1968, he and Mary Jo purchased land near Delmar, where he farmed until 1996.

A man of faith, Kenneth was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. In retirement, he found joy in giving back to his community as an active member of the Delmar Lions Club. He was particularly passionate about the Delmar Lions Blood Drive, among other projects. Kenneth's hobbies included woodworking and exploring estate sales to find hidden treasures.

Kenneth's legacy continues through his cherished family, including his wife, Mary Jo Ewoldt of Delmar, IA; children, Beth (Brad) Bartels of Cedar Rapids, IA, Guy (Janelle) Ewoldt of Delmar, IA, and Amanda (Kurt) Wendel of Robins, IA; his 6 grandchildren, Emily (and fiancé Cutler Albright) Bartels, Jacob Bartels, Austin Ewoldt, Jordan (Emily) Ewoldt, Ellie Wendel, and Kate Wendel; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Harlan Albright and Otto Ewoldt. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Caroline Backstrom, Erma Plambeck, Alta Badtram, and brothers Orrie, Harvey, Lester, Donald, Waldo, and Otto Ewoldt.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 4 to 7 P.M. at Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, and again on Wednesday from 10 to 11 A.M. at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt, Iowa.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Delmar Lions Club, Impact Life Davenport Blood Drive, or Hospice of Jackson County.
