PORT BYRON-Louis "Lee" Haskins, 76, of Port Byron, IL, died peacefully Thursday, December 13, 2018 at his home surrounded in love. Visitation for the public will be held from 4-7pm on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Services and burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Riverdale Education Foundation for a scholarship to be established in Lee's name.
Lee was born March 2, 1942 in Moline, the son of Chester and Marjorie (Weckel) Haskins. He graduated from Riverdale High School in 1960. He married Barbara Hanna on December 9, 1961 at the Hillsdale United Methodist Church during a huge snowstorm. Lee was a great Supervisor at the John Deere Parts Distribution Center retiring after 37 years of service. He thoroughly enjoyed 20 years of retirement and never thought about working again. Lee loved playing and watching sports and excelled in all of them. He enjoyed shooting pool, golfing, fishing, gardening, being outdoors and spending time with family. He never met a stranger and he liked getting 'haircuts' at Peacocks. He liked sneaking chocolates and doughnuts when possible.
Lee is survived by his wife Barb; children, Polly Haskins (Rob Coisman), Jeff (Sandy) Haskins, both of Port Byron; brother, Jack Haskins; sisters, Joan Tolliver, Joyce Reiling; and grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, and Gannon Haskins.
