Lynda Hoover Obituary
On Saturday, January 24th, our beloved Lynne passed away at the age of 80 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born as Goldie Jean Curtis on February 27th, 1945, in New Orleans, La. to Sam and Fern Curtis. Being from a Navy family, she spent her childhood moving across the U.S., taking her to places such as Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, and California.
She met Doyle Hoover in Dallas, Texas and on April 7th, 1962, they were married in San Antonio. In 1969 they moved to the Quad City area and finally found their home in 1970 in Rock Island, Ill., where she lived for 55 years.
She and Doyle owned and operated an antique store in Moline for many years. She also waitressed at several well-known local restaurants over the years.
Because of her love of teaching others about God, she made the choice to forgo having children to be able to spend her life in full time service. She was baptized on June 15th, 1960. Throughout her life she was a great friend and neighbor to her spiritual brothers and sisters in her congregation.
She was an extremely talented seamstress and for years made clothes and dresses for her family, friends and their children. She also enjoyed reading cookbooks in her spare time to discover and create new recipes to make and share.
Although she never had kids of her own, "Aunt Lynne" will always be remembered for sharing her love of sewing, cooking, going for long walks, and studying the bible.
She is survived by her mother, Fern Dillon; sister, Debra Vought; brother, Robert Smith; niece, Kari Blick; nephew, Michael Vought; two great nieces, a great nephew, and countless beloved spiritual brothers and sisters.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2767 9th St, Rock Island, IL. For those who cannot attend in person, a live Zoom of the memorial will also be available. Meeting ID: 892 9995 9542 Passcode: Jehovah
