Manuel "Manny" Lopez, 71, of Davenport, died Thursday, June 6, 2024, at his home.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be held in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home with additional visitation from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to I Am ALS (www.iamals.org/give/) or to the family to establish an educational fund for Manuel's grandchildren.
Manuel Fred Lopez was born April 20, 1953, in Davenport, a son of Salvador and Joan (Garcia) Lopez. Following graduation, he joined the Army. Manny did an apprenticeship with ALCOA and continued his career there as an electrician, retiring in 2014.
Manuel was united in marriage to Jayne Mayer on September 22, 1979, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
Manny was a kind man, with a dry sense of humor that could catch you off guard. He was a family man and cherished his grandchildren. Through the years, Manny and his family enjoyed Saturday morning brunch at the homestead on Farnam Street. He was proud to come from a large family. He participated in several sports, including running the BIX for 25 years, softball, and Tuesday night pool league.
Survivors include his wife, Jayne; sons: Michael (Heather Pearson) Lopez, Andrew (Olivia) Lopez, and Peter (Megan) Lopez; grandchildren: Mylo, Aoife, and Baby Manny Lopez; his father, Salvador "Chavo" Lopez; siblings: Maria (Tim Dunker) Anderson, Salvador (Tumm) Lopez, Jr., Martin (Chris) Lopez, Matthew (Lynne) Lopez, Tom (Teresa) Lopez, Lisa (Decker Truesdell) Lopez, and Randy (LuAnn DeVol) Lopez.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
