Marian Meyer Obituary

Marian Jean Meyer

March 4, 1929 - June 20, 2025

Marian Jean Meyer, age 96, of Blue Grass, Iowa passed away peacefully on June 20th at her home. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 Thursday, June 26th at Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30 - 3:30. Burial will take place in Blue Grass Cemetery followed by a reception at the church.

Marian was born on March 4, the daughter of Florence and Albert Brandt. She was married to her beloved Leslie Meyer who passed away in 1997. They happily raised three sons together.

Marian was a gracious pillar of her family and community. She started working as a teller at the Blue Grass Bank when she was 16 and retired when she was 84. Among her many pursuits, she helped her husband run Meyer's Grocery, served as an officer of the Blue Grass Legion Auxiliary, worked for the Blue Grass American school, and started a sewing partnership, Mayne Lane Stitchers. She was always joyfully and judiciously making and baking things, gardening, playing cards with conviction, and giving generously of her time and spirit.

Marian will be forever remembered by her 3 sons, Ed (Cathy) of Taylor Ridge, IL, David (Tamara) of Berkeley, CA and Larry (Sue) of Davenport, IA; 6 grandchildren, Brad (Christina), Kurt, Audi (John), Emily (Brandon), Scott (Nikki), Alison (Andrew); eleven great grandchildren, a sister, Delorus Bockwoldt, and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her husband Les Meyer, a WWII veteran, along with her sister, Ardell (Glen) Moeller, and brothers Earl (Pat) Brandt, and Bob (Marilyn) Brandt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blue Grass American Legion Auxiliary, Post #711.

It was such a pleasure to see Marian when I visited Blue Grass or attended an extended family event. She compiled our annual family history updates and co-organized the Brus reunion for decades and really kept our family connections strong. One of my favorite memories involves Les and Marian taking four of us kids to a Cubs game one summer that my parents had tickets for but had to work. They were not only great life examples, but a LOT of fun. I will miss her.

Miss. Marian was a sweet, kind lady. She was very talented in many ways. We always enjoyed her company, an at Legion events an when we had her very gentle helping hand. She was amazing cook and her cream puff´s were the best ever. We will truly miss her. John and Sandy Hudson.

I was very fortunate to be a close friend of the entire Meyer family during my youth. Marian, along with her husband Les, were the greatest role models one could ever have, as they were the kindest and most generous human beings on the face of this earth. Now, with time to reflect as a much older man myself, I sincerely thank them both for being such a positive influence in my life. I have tremendous respect and appreciation for Marian's generation. Marian, congratulations on a life very well lived. Rest in peace.

My heart aches for the family. I have so many wonderful memories of afternoons spent with Marian cooking, sewing, ironing, and just being in her presence. She will forever be one of my favorite people that I was blessed to know and have in my life.

There was absolutely nothing not to love about Marian. She lived the Christian life and she was beautiful.

My mom, Dolores Willson, and Marian became friends at frank Smart Junior High. After they married, they lived on the same street in Blue Grass. They both worked at the Blue Grass Bank. They both went to Blue Grass Presbyterian Church. They both were active in the American Legion and were both past presidents. They played 500 together for most of their adult lives. Marian was my mom's longest-time friend. I didn't know life without Marian. I have several of her stitchery projects in my home in Texas. To have a friend like Marian was a true treasure. She was loved and will be missed by so many.
