Martin "Captain" Connell
October 19, 1961 - January 2, 2024
DELMAR - Martin "Captain" Connell, 62, of Delmar Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, in his home.
Martin Gerard "Captain" Connell was born October 19, 1961, in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Al and Marian (Burke) Connell. He graduated from Central Community Schools in Dewitt, Class of 1980. Mart considered himself one of the lucky ones, as he got to start and end each day doing what he loved most: being a farmer. In 2013, Mart and his classmate Cindy crossed paths, sparking a love that has kept them inseparable ever since.
Those who met him, worked alongside him, and who were loved by him knew of his ambitious determination and contagious enthusiasm for life. His legacy serves as a living testament to the mantra "Work Hard, Play Hard." Captain will be best remembered as the fun ambassador, with his fun meter stuck wide open. Some of Mart's greatest attributes were the pride he took in maintaining his farms (as he was a perfectionist), his enormous circle of good friends (his goal always to make them laugh), and the fierce love he had for his wife. He will be forever in our hearts and the loss we feel is inconceivable.
Surviving are his wife, Cindy; sons, Steven (Ashley) Connell of Delmar, and Cole Connell of Tampa, Florida, stepdaughters, Erica (Ken Reed) Textor, of Marion, and Bailey (Ben) Harlander of Ft. Collins, Colorado; grandchildren, Nicole and Richard Reed, and Clara and Riley Connell; his mother, Marian Connell of Grand Mound; siblings, Brenda Connell of Clinton, and Matt (Gaye) Connell of Fairview, Texas; nieces, Shannon (Alec) Hall and Kacie Connell; and countless cherished friends and relatives.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 20th, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. A luncheon will follow at the Clinton County 4-H Grounds. The family requests no flowers or memorial gifts. Those wishing to express their sympathy are encouraged to give to L'Arche in Clinton https://larcheclinton.org/donate
