Nancy Laing Obituary

Nancy Lee Laing

January 8, 1945 - August 5, 2025

Nancy Lee Laing, 80, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away at her home on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, following a brief illness, surrounded by her beloved family.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bettendorf High School Math and Science Department in care of her son, Rick Laing (please make checks out to Rick Laing).

Born on January 8, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo., she was the beloved daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Hawkey) Rowe.

Nancy was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear, dear friend to many. Nancy left her mark on everyone that she came in contact with, with her gentle smile, her caring heart, and her quiet but sharp wit. She loved baking everyone's favorite cookies and enjoyed all of the crafts from sewing to crocheting to cross stitch. Her greatest loves were her close group of life-long crazy friends and her amazing seven grandkids and three great-grandkids.

She loved hosting Christmas at Grandmas with all of the family crammed into her tiny house. She always had an abundance of food to eat, crazy games to play, and fun-with-food where she combined her love for food and crafts.

Nancy devoted her working years to the Bettendorf School District where she volunteered whenever she could, was a constant in the ticket booth at BHS football and basketball games, and made many more impacts on the faculty, staff and students as a secretary in the Math and Science Department. She retired in 2010 after 20 years of faithful service.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Jack; her daughter, Brenda Schultz; her son, Rick and Johnna Laing; her grandchildren, Kristin and Darryl Mason, Cassandra Sendt and Andy Salwolke, Courtney Sendt and Andrew Lange, McKenna Laing and Mason Gray, Max Laing, Morgan Laing and Meed Laing; her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Kix and Callan; her brother, Tom and Liz Rowe; and her brother-in-law, Ernie Conner.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol "Keb" Conner.

Condolences may be expressed to the family by viewing her obituary at www.McGinnis-Chambers.com.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the caring staff at MercyOne Genesis Hospice Care.

Yesterday

Such a dear lady! Always a ready smile, kind word and generous nature. Nancy captured my whole family´s heart! Treasured Science and Math secretary, she shared her skills her supplies and best of all her wit with all of us! My daughter made her a sign for her desk that said "The Nancinator"! She had super powers of kindness and acceptance! Kids and teachers loved her and often visited the fish bowl on her desk where they were welcomed with a caring heart and listening ear. She was a delight! We will keep loving memory´s of her in our hearts.
