Aside from his family, Paul's greatest devotion was to the military. In 1956, he enlisted with the United States Naval Air Force. During Vietnam he often told stories of his support during the control of Ho Chi Min Trail. He remained active with the service and traveled the world until retirement as Master Sergeant in 1990.
After retirement from the Rock Island Arsenal, Paul devoted his time to supporting his church, the American Legion, 40&8 Club and especially the Quad City Stand Down. Stand Down gave him personal satisfaction from helping veterans with housing, clothing, hunger, and medical needs.
Family and friends will remember Paul for his generosity and Irish wit. He was the great storyteller!
DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY! WELL DONE! BE AT PEACE!
Paul is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children: Tammy (Larry) Egan/O'Brien of Florida, Dean (Teresa) Egan of Sterling, IL, Paula (Ken) Geiger of Port Byron, IL, Mechele Egan of Port Byron, IL; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen (Buxton) Egan; two sisters, three brothers, and a daughter, Julie Calderon.
