Randall Brockhouse Obituary

Randall Lynn Brockhouse Randall "Randy" L. Brockhouse, age 68 , of rural LeClaire, died at Trinity Terrace Park in Bettendorf Iowa on Thursday March 30, 2023.

Funeral services will be held Saturday April 8th at 4:00 pm at McGinnis Chamber Funeral home at 644 River Drive in Bettendorf Iowa. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. A military service will follow immediately after the service at McGinnis. Following the services, a gathering at Boll's Community Center in Princeton, IA will continue his Celebration of Life with a late luncheon for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Randy's name may be made to his grandchildren's education fund.

Randy was born on July 26, 1954 in Sacramento, California, the son of Earl and Joyce Brockhouse. He graduated from North Scott High School in 1972, lettering in Football, Basketball, Track, and Baseball.

Randy enlisted in the United States Navy in August of 1972 and served until 1975. While based in Jacksonville, FL. he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, completing tours of both Iceland and Sicily. Randy continued his "military service" as a member of American Legion Post 347, in LeClaire, providing services to fallen Veterans and marching in numerous local parades alongside his Dad and Uncles Bob Brockhouse and Kenneth Brockhouse. In addition to the Legion, Randy served in the Princeton Lions Club, and volunteered for various community projects. He was an active member of Our Savior Presbyterian Church in Argo where he had served as a Deacon.

Randy married his high school sweetheart, Rhonda L. Bowman on July 27, 1974. She was so naturally attracted to him at the young age of 16 because of his wit, charm and uncanny resemblance to Robert Redford. The couple made their home in Eldridge, IA, where they raised their daughter, Sara and son, Tommy. They were blessed beyond measure to enjoy a beautiful life of camping, playing baseball, numerous trips to Disney World and Florida and being a part of so many wonderful, close family gatherings.

Throughout his life he was known by all as a fun, gentle, kind, loving and most of all generous man. His heart was most filled with joy when he was doing the things he loved most, such as coaching Tommy's baseball teams, playing "500" with his kids at Franklin Park, dressing up for Halloween, mushroom hunting every spring with Sara, gardening, fishing, watching the Red Sox win, mastering the art of finding and collecting sea shells, and doing "everyday things" with Rhonda. They had most recently just returned from a beautiful and unforgettable, month-long trip to Disney World and Clearwater Beach, FL. But his greatest blessings, after his children, were his grandchildren, Peyton and Lily. There was not a thing in the world he wouldn't have done for them.

The life that Randy led was that of service to others, his family, his friends and most importantly, his country. Randy held a strong faith in God through all of his Earthly struggles and knew that God would be the hope for His future HOME.

Those left to honor his memory include his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Rhonda; his daughter Sara and granddaughter Lily of LeClaire, his grandson Peyton at Iowa State University, and Katie Oros at the University of Iowa; his brother Dwight (Deb) of Muscatine; mother-in-law, Janet Bowman of Eldridge; brother-in-laws Scott (Linda) Bowman of Maquoketa; Roger Baustian of Davenport; Steve Bowman from Walcott; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Joyce Brockhouse, his son Tommy, his brother Ted and infant sister Debra.

I can remember the first time I saw Randy at church. It was during our Parking Lot Sale and he came in with several cool items to sell. Little did I know how much he would become such a valuable member of our church family --that you chose us was a blessing. Randy´s faithfulness, your singing, and how you both volunteered to help when needed, thanks for sharing. Hope you will be able to continue worship with us as I lift up Bob and you lift up Randy!!
