DAVENPORT-Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Walter Arthur McNeill, 78, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:30am Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport. Per his wishes, the rite of cremation will take place following the service. The family will greet friends from 4-6pm Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. There will be an additional visitation Wednesday at church from 9:30am until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the family. Walter passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the University of Iowa Clinics and Hospital in Iowa City, surrounded by his family.
Walter Arthur McNeill was born July 23, 1943, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, a son of Fred J. and Ruth (Rousseau) McNeill. He was a self-employed salesman. Walter married Beverly Zittlow January 25, 1964, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Green Bay. They have celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Walter enjoyed hunting deer and elk with his brothers, playing pool with his sons-in-law, tinkering in the garage, and traveling to Arizona. He was known to his grandchildren as "Bomps". Walter was a Green Bay Packers Fan. He enjoyed a good beer and a great deal!
Those left to honor Walter's memory include his loving wife, Beverly, Davenport; children: Tammy (Jeff Meeks) Blick; Carman (Brian) Neilson; Walter "Norbie" (Jennifer) McNeill, all of Davenport; 8 grandchildren: Christopher (Shannon), Chloe (Brett), Clarissa (Loren), Justin (Krystal), Amber (Jake), Zachary (Gabby), Hannah (Jon) and John; 6 great-grandchildren: Millie, Kiley, Kendall, Jaxson, Camden and Presley; siblings: Robert (Dorothy) McNeill, Jack (Donna) McNeill, Anna Wasurick, Patrick (Sue) McNeill, Joseph (Judy) McNeill, Cora (Tom) Ruder and Frederick (Bonnie) McNeill. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William and brother-in-law, Roger Wasurick.
