Arthur Leroy Shepard

1944 - 2024

Arthur "Art" Leroy Shepard, 79, of Oak Harbor WA passed away peacefully in his home on August 23, 2024 surrounded by his family and his dog Harley.

Art was born November 6, 1944 in Glendive, MT the son of William and Mary Shepard. He grew up in Glendive, graduating from High School with the DCHS class of 1963. After serving four years in the United States Navy he moved to Tacoma, WA and worked for the Boeing Company at which time he met and married Margareta "Reta" Wieser on February 22, 1969.

After the big Boeing "Lights Out" lay offs, Art relocated his little family to Glendive MT in 1971 where he worked for the Gate City Dairy and along with his wife they raised their three children, Monica, George and Shawna. His little family enjoyed making many crazy memories fishing and camping at Intake, and of course bowling was also a huge family pastime. Art was a great baseball coach and spent many years coaching his son's baseball teams.

After Gate City Dairy downsized Art moved his family back to Washington in 1989 and worked at a dairy, rounding out his career as a USDA egg grader/inspector.

Art was not a man of many words, but if you needed statistics on most any sports team then he was your man.

Art has now joined his son, George Shepard who passed in June of 2010. A joyous reunion for sure.

Art has left behind his loving wife, Reta Shepard, daughter Monica (Dustin) Amundson all of Oak Harbor WA, daughter Shawna (Russ) Feisthamel of Glendive MT, three grandsons, Justin Shepard, Joshua (Sarah) Chase, Casey Rounseville, one granddaughter Amanda (Derrick) Moos, great-grandson Jett Moos, and one great-grandson on the way. Art was very proud of his entire family.

He has requested that there be no services. He and his wife Reta enjoy Willie Nelson's song "I Don't Go To Funerals".... Give it a listen and know that Art is now rejoicing in heaven, leaving his struggles behind.
