Hans Faye Obituary
LONGMONT, Colo. - Hans Frederick Faye, of Longmont, Colorado, died at his home on Thursday, September 22, 2005. He was 92 years old.
Hans was born November 5, 1912 in Sioux City, Iowa to Hans H. and Betty C. (Thoreson) Faye. He grew up and attended schools in South Sioux City, Nebraska before enlisting in the United States Army in 1935. Mr. Faye began his military career serving in the "F" Troop with the U.S. 4th Cavalry at Fort Meade, South Dakota. He was proud of being a member of one of the last regular mounted units before they converted to using motorcycles and Jeeps. Over his 22-year military career, he served as Chief Clerk and Officer in the Finance Department at various duty stations including the Panama Canal Zone and at the London Finance Office in London, England. He retired from active military duty in 1957 with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After a brief time on the family ranch in Darby, Montana he finished his work career as Manager and Treasurer of the Ellsworth Air Force Federal Credit Union in South Dakota, retiring in 1978.
He married Edna A. Melton on December 23, 1940 in Woonsocket, South Dakota. The couple lived at various duty stations around the world and in Rapid City, South Dakota until moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1986. Upon her death in 1994 Mr. Faye moved to Longmont, Colorado to be near family.
When he wasn't working in his yard or flowerbeds, or spending time with local family members, Mr. Faye could be found woodworking in his shop or telling jokes and stories with people in his woodcarving group at the Senior Center. He was also a member of the Retired Officer's Association and looked forward to their annual gatherings.
He is survived by his son, James F. Faye and his wife, Elin, of Amesbury, Massachusetts; a grandson, Daren Faye and his wife, Michelle, of Longmont; two granddaughters, Laurie Faye, of Longmont, and Nissa Faye of Amesbury; a daughter-in-law, Jana Faye of Longmont; and two great grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Faye. He is further survived by one brother, Lloyd Faye and his wife, Alice, of Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Margaret Erickson of Superior, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Helen Van Nice of Rapid City, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Faye was preceded in death by his wife on November 5, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Donald, Fred, Ralph and Earl Faye; and by four sisters, Elsie Ruffato, Diana Greslin, Alice Peterson, and Gladys Miner.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Howe Mortuary, Longmont. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 7, 2005 at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. High Frontier Honor Guard of Peterson Air Force Base will present military honors.
