May Riddle Obituary

WEBSTER - May Riddle, 100, of Bristol and formally of Webster died on Monday, September 27, 2004 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, Rev. Julie Nygaard officiating. Burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday, 4-8 P.M and prior to services on Thursday. May Lillian Gilbert was born on Monday, May 30, 1904 to Byron and Marie (Rhode) Gilbert at Lisbon, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Lisbon. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1924, attended college in Valley City and taught school in Ransom County, North Dakota. She also was licensed as a hairdresser by the North Dakota State Board. On June 20, 1929 she married Eugene H. Riddle at Lisbon, North Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm near Waubay, South Dakota. In 1937 they moved to Webster where Mr. Riddle was the Day County Register of Deeds and Clerk of Courts. He also was acting F.H.A. Supervisor. Mr. Riddle passed away in December 1961. After his death she remained in Webster until her health failed in 1994 and she moved to Rapid City to live at Fairmont Manor Assisted Living. In 1999, because of a stroke, she moved to Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. She was an active member of the Webster United Methodist Church where she held offices in the Woman's Society, was Sunday School Superintendent and spent many hours helping with church projects. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Home Extension Club, Rebekah Lodge, a R.S.V.P. Volunteer, Senior Citizens and Golden Age Club. May enjoyed a variety of crafts when she wasn't busy with her children, volunteering and attending all their activities. She loved spending weekends with her family at the cabin on Pickerel Lake. Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lou (Dean) Malloy of Rapid City, SD and Anna May (Glen) Carlis of Webster, SD; three sons, Robert (Carole) Riddle and Jesse (Joyce) Riddle both of Rapid City, SD and Richard (Marian) Riddle of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and three sisters. Active casket bearers will be Tim, Scott, Brett and Larry Riddle, Lee Jensen and Quentin Bury. Organist will be Mary Bloom and vocalists will be Nila Stewart and Bryan Schumacher.
