Richard Strain Obituary

BISMARCK, N.D. - Richard Alvin Strain, 77, died peacefully on November 29, 2005, at a Bismarck hospital. Born in Pond Creek, OK, Richard was raised in Oklahoma and Wyoming then moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1950. From 1967 to 1973 he lived in Phoenix, Arizona, and from 1994 to 2003 he lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, and then moved to Bismarck, ND to be closer to his daughter. Following high school, Richard volunteered for service in the US Army. He was an engineer stationed in Ladfield Alaska. He returned to Rapid City where he held several positions including the fire department, US Postal Service, bookkeeping and sales. Richard enjoyed motorcycles, both selling and riding. He enjoyed getting "lost" in the Black Hills and racing at the Sturgis rally. After hanging up his helmet, he was the flagman at the rally for many years. Richard was a fine guitar player, enjoyed playing cards and watching and talking about baseball. He will be remembered as a man who liked to laugh and friends and family will treasure his quick wit. He is survived by his daughter, Amber, and his son in law Lee Timmerman, Bismarck; Sister Dottie, and brother in law, Harold Viehweg of Prescott Valley, AZ; many nieces and nephews and caring friends. Richard will be returned home to Rapid City, SD, and will be committed at Pine Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Eastgate Funeral Service
