Valeta Marie Kapaun
RAPID CITY – Valeta Marie Kapaun, 101, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at home with her son, Doug, by her side.
Valeta was born September 30, 1922 in Sibley, IA to Adam and Caroline (Haumesser) Fix. She married David Kapaun on February 17, 1941 in Worthington, MN. To this union sons: Douglas and Darrell were born.
Valeta was a loving homebody and housekeeper. Into her eighties, she found joy in Volkssporting and was proud to have done events in 43 states.
Valeta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; sister, Helen Balkenol; brother, Lawrence Fix; and grandson, Christopher Kapaun.
She is survived by her son, Doug Kapaun, Rapid City; son, Darrell (Kathy) Kapaun, Luverne, MN; granddaughter, Paula (Steve) Laurens; and her nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00-6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2024 at Blessed Sacrament Church with a Vigil at 6:00 p.m.
Christian Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at the church with Fr. Timothy Hoag presiding.
Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Monument Health Home+Hospice House.
