Harold L. Hafer

Harold L. Hafer, 92, of Hamburg, formerly of Port Clinton, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022 in St. Luke's Geisinger Hospital, Orwigsburg. He was the husband of the late Mary B. (Barron) Hafer, died May 19, 2018. Born in Port Clinton, he was the son of the late Nathan H. and Carrie (Sterner) Hafer. He attended school at both Port Clinton and Hamburg Schools. He was a member of St. John's Church, Port Clinton. Harold worked at A&P for 43 years as an assistant manager, produce manager, deli manager, and last worked in shipping and receiving at Hamburg, Reading, Pottstown, Mt. Penn, and Shillington stores, retiring in August 1991. He was a former volunteer firefighter and trustee at Port Clinton Fire Co., for 20 years; and was curator of the former Northern Berks Southern Schuylkill Museum in Port Clinton, and was a member of Hamburg Senior Citizens. He is survived by a son: Alan J. Hafer, husband of the late Karen (Stover), Upper Bern Twp.; two daughters: Barbara H. (Hafer) Schuler, wife of Ross L., North Manheim Twp., and Cathy A. (Hafer) Ayers, wife of Kent L., Wayne Twp.; three grandchildren: Rory Schuler, Brent Ayers, and Sarah Ayers; and three great-grandsons: Sean Ayers, Trent Ayers, and Max Schuler. Harold is also survived by two brothers: Charles J. Hafer, Hamburg, and George F. Hafer, Port Clinton; and three sisters: Mary Lou (Hafer) Franfelter, Harrisburg, Georgine F. (Hafer) wife of Joseph Roman, Florida, and Joanne L. (Hafer) Donetti, Port Clinton. He was predeceased by a son: Daniel F. Hafer, in 1967, two brothers: Robert K. and Donald N. Hafer; and one sister: Irene N. (Hafer) Moyer. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 10:00 am from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 65 S. 4th Street Hamburg (Off-street parking in rear).
