Born in Englesville, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Lillian (Hoffman) Buchert.
He was employed as an electrician and maintenance supervisor at East Penn Manufacturing, Lyons, for 19 years and then owned and operated Buchert's Electrical, Oley, for many years until retiring in 2006.
He was a member of Calvary United Church of Christ, Barto; Boyertown Lodge 741 F&AM; and the Scottish Rite, Valley of Reading.
He was also a member of the Oley Fire Company; Gabelsville Athletic Association; Pike Township Sportsmen's Association; Oley Valley Fish and Game; Grundsow Lodge; and the M9 Hunting Club.
He was a longtime volunteer with the Oley Valley Community Fair and served on the advisory board for Berks Career & Technology Center, East Campus. He was a past vice president of the Niantic Cemetery Association.
He is survived by a son, Harry R. Buchert, Fishguard, Wales; two daughters, Peggy Sue Haupt, New Hanover Township, and Jane V. Yoder-Raysor, Englesville; and a stepson, Mark L. Emes.
Other survivors include five grandsons: Guy E. Haupt, Richard J. Yoder, David M. Haupt, Sebastian J. Buchert and John Paul Emes.
He was predeceased by four brothers: Lawrence, Richard, Norman and Robert.
Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in Blankenbiller Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 423 Main St., Oley. Burial will be in Niantic Cemetery, Barto. Friends may view Friday 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Masonic service by Boyertown Lodge 741 will be Friday at 8 p.m.
